PRESS RELEASE

EPIC Honored as “Best Place to Work in Insurance”

San Mateo, Calif. (October 26, 2009) – EPIC (Edgewood Partners Insurance Center), a retail property, casualty and employee benefits insurance brokerage, has been recognized as a “Best Place to Work in Insurance” by Business Insurance Magazine and survey co-sponsor Best Companies Group. EPIC was one of 33 companies nationally recognized with this honor, and one of only 19 brokers to receive the award.

The honor from Business Insurance follows a number of recent awards and accolades for EPIC. The company was named by both the San Francisco Business Times and Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal as a “Best Place to Work” in 2008 and 2009, finishing first in the mid-size company category. In addition, EPIC was also honored this month as a “Fastest Growing Private Company” in Silicon Valley by the San Jose Business Journal and in the greater San Francisco Bay Area by the San Francisco Business Times. EPIC is the only insurance firm in the region to earn both distinctions.

"While awards like this are not the only measure of success, they are very important to us. They are gratifying because they reflect the satisfaction of our people and the success and strength of our culture," said Mary Smith, director of human resources for EPIC. "We are diligent in our efforts to make EPIC a place where people enjoy and respect each other, and take great pride in the important work they do on behalf of our clients. The award from Business Insurance is particularly meaningful because it focuses exclusively on the insurance industry, and evaluates us among our professional peers."

“To make the Best Places to Work in Insurance list, each company had to demonstrate a minimum standard of excellence,” Peter B. Burke, president of Best Companies Group, who managed the survey process for Business Insurance is quoted as saying in the Business Insurance article. “We do have our eyes set on an overall level of satisfaction that we want to see.”

There are risks and costs to a program of action. But they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction.
