What's New?

  • Holiday Giving

    February 15, 2012 0 Comments

The holiday spirit was with many at the EPIC office this December.

Holiday Giving The Folsom office participated in a program called “Adopt-a-Family.” This year they adopted 3 families which included 3 single moms and 5 children. They bought, wrapped and delivered over 50 gifts.

Holiday Giving This is the 3rd year in a row that EPIC’s Irvine office has donated to “Toys for Tots” through the “Spark of Love” toy drive headed by Shanna Niemela. Here is the pleased and proud Shanna surrounded by some of the 210 toys that were collected by our Irvine team to support this very worthy organization and those who benefit from their efforts.

Holiday Giving Santa Marie Engstrom (Irvine office) was also busy spreading Holiday cheer, adopting a family for Christmas through the organization “Family Support Network.” Once again the Irvine team very generously supported her effort with donations and gifts. Here is Marie with some of the gifts and gift cards that were collected for her adopted family.

  • The Janet Pomeroy Center

    Participant: Ed Reidy, San Francisco

Ed supports and sits on the Board of the Janet Pomeroy Center. The Center will celebrate its 60th year in San Francisco in 2012 and does great work with a number of groups including those in the disabled and traumatic brain injury communities.

    The Janet Pomeroy Center

When Janet Pomeroy founded the Recreation Center for the Handicapped (now known as The Janet Pomeroy Center) in 1952, few thought it would survive. As far as Janet knew, there were no other recreation centers for people with disabilities. Her work started with six teens and two volunteers in one room of the nearby Fleishacker Pool Building. In 1973, the program moved to the other side of the San Francisco Zoo, and is still located at 207 Skyline Blvd.

Janet's dream, to meet community needs for programs serving children and adults with disabilities, has become a reality. Today, through its programs and services The Janet Pomeroy Center serves nearly 2,000 people every week. The center has been acknowledged nationally and internationally for pioneering recreation programs for people with developmental disabilities in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties, and for leadership in vocational rehabilitation, education, respite care and community-based programs.

For the first time, Jacob Hamilton joined “Team Jacobito” and gallantly rode 30-miles for himself (1st row, 2nd from the left).  He finished this year’s ride along side his mother, father and sister. The rest of us crossed the finish line following closely behind. It was an amazing experience for all of us.

Bike MS – National Multiple Sclerosis Society

Many of us rode not only for Jacob, but for friends and family battling this disease. People like Angela, Linda’s daughter, Bill’s brother, and my friend Kevin CRASH Gaffney were heavy on my heart this weekend.  I continue to ride with the hope for a better tomorrow for all of them. Someday, hopefully soon, I’ll ride because THERE IS FINALLY A CURE FOR MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS!!!

THANK YOU ALL FOR MAKING THIS EVENT POSSIBLE.

    Sincerely,
Athena Marie Morris & TEAM JACOBITO

    Participant: Tina Brink, Folsom

Tina Brink walked in the March For Babies fundraiser this year in Sacramento on April 30th. Tina is the mother of twins, who were born premature at 33 weeks (pictured below), weighing about 4lbs each. They spent about 3 weeks in the NICU before coming home. That was almost 4 years ago, and they have walked every year since then. March for Babies (the March of Dimes) is an incredible organization fighting premature birth and helping those families that find themselves facing an incredible struggle and fight for life. The EPIC family has been extremely generous in supporting Tina’s fundraising efforts. Thank you everyone!
